Jaz

“We have had “Jaz” (short for Jasmine) home for a week now and what a great dog she is! She has adjusted suprisingly well for a dog who has lived in a shelter since puppyhood. Not one single ‘accident’! Sleeps through the night (after 3 nights in the crate, she somehow ended up on the bed the 4th night).
Our other dog, Murphy, also a shelter dog, loves her! They play together as if they have known each other all their lives. You should see her run with him! Fast! Running, playing, chasing squirrels and then collapsing in a heap together. Jaz seems to have this incredible smile on her face for most of the day. (Do dogs smile or is it my imagination?)
Challenges for Jaz? Stairs. She obviously had never seen stairs. She mastered ‘up’ pretty quickly but ‘down’ has taken a bit more time. Ceiling fans. She won’t go into a room with a ceiling fan on. We have turned them off for now and she is much happier. Space. She is timid in large rooms. She likes our small den best and has made herself at home in ‘my’ chair. Nighttime. We don’t think she has ever been outside in the dark. She is getting over that one really fast and now is eager for the ‘last walk’ before bed!
Jaz is a very sweet, loving, self-confident, playful dog who loves to give kisses and whose tail doesn’t stop. We feel so lucky to have found her and we can’t believe she waited so long (>2 years) for her ‘forever’ home. We feel the same way about Murphy. Incredible dogs!
We wanted to thank you and your fellow volunteers for the work that you do at the Yonkers Animal Shelter. We know that without your love and attention Jaz would not be the sweet girl she is and would not be with us today. We really hit the ‘jackpot’ with her and we hope, she, with us.”
