I am attaching a picture of our new Cavalier King Charles that we named Benjamin. As you can see, Daisy, our #1 dog is learning to share with her adopted brother. Daisy was an only dog for many years and we spoiled her. However, she is politely tolerant of her little brother and put up well with him. Both these dogs were adopted. Daisy came from a shelter and Benjamin was a rescue. Both are wonderful dogs. As we both know, there are many more wonderful animals available in shelters and rescue groups that are looking for homes.
Thank you again for helping with Benjamin’s adoption.

I wanted to let you know what a wonderful weekend we had with Nella. She is an amazing dog who has changed our lives. She has such a loving disposition and is friendly to everyone she meets. Our neighbors have already fallen for her and ask us regularly about her progress. We spent all day Friday hanging around the house and getting to know her. She was so content just spending time with us and following us every where we went. She made friends very quickly with our neighbors’ dogs and just seemed like she wanted to play. On Friday evening we went down to a friend of ours who has a black lab, she has been desperate for a friend, well they hit off immediately and played for hours. She ran and ran and ran and ran. She ran herself into exhaustion and slept through the night with no problems. We bought her a dog bed and positioned it right next to our bed. On Saturday we had some friends over for a barbecue. One of our friends has two young children who are three years old and ten months old. Nella adored them both and allowed Cal, the three year old to pet her and play with her all evening. He played catch and wrestled with her all evening long and asked if he could bring Nella to his house to meet his dog Iger. Saturday night went just as well as Friday night with Nella sleeping through the night. It is obvious that she, like her father, enjoys her sleep. We actually had a hard time getting her motivated to start the day on Sunday. We walked her first thing in the morning and she went right back to bed. She was not ready to start her day, but as soon as we went down the stairs she followed. Sunday was spent at Gedney Park where she is allowed to be unleashed to play with other dogs and boy did she play! We spent six hours at the park and she played with every dog in sight. A couple dogs did not approve of her playful spirit and high energy but she learned very quickly who her friends were. It was a good learning experience for her and she loved running around. It was interesting how she would always check to see where we were and she never strayed far. When we found a comfortable place to sit in the shade she did her usual snuggle routine and slept on our laps. Heather said she always wanted a needy, loving dog and we definately have that with Nella. She loves to show affection and appreciation by giving kisses. She is happy with what ever she is doing as long as she is with us and thats what makes her so special. Nella truly appreciates being loved and is evident in her loyalty and willingness to please. She has already learned the heal, sit, stay and come commands with not a whole lot of practice. She will be an expert in a few more weeks. Nella is the perfect dog for us in so many ways and we want to thank you for saving her life. Without your love for her we would not have experienced this joy. It continues to amaze me that someone could actually abandoned her and it hurts to think how frieghtened she must have been particularly knowing how loyal and loving she is. We are happier than words can describe with Nella and we owe our happiness to you. What you did for her was an incredible act of kindness and Knowing Nella, she will never forget you. The invitation is always open for you if you ever want to see her. I am sure she would love to see you. We both want to thank you from the bottom of hearts for filling our life with so much joy. She has lifted our spirits and brightened our days and we look forward to many years with her. Thank you again for all that you have done.
Sincerly,
Mark, Heather & Nella

He loves us both so much — doesn’t let us get too far away. I think he’s still unsure of where his permanent home will be but I know he sure likes us! ….We can’t thank you enough for giving us a pet to love but also a homeless one to care for. We missed that so much (a little one around). I”ve told a lot of people who love pets about your good work - many knew nothing about rescue - so maybe more people will do as we did. Please accept our sincere gratitude for all the work this adoption took and for fulfilling our need and those of Rambo……….and God bless you”

He wakes up extra early every morning so he can walk him and comes straight home from school to walk him - totally voluntary. He has taught Jake how to play tether ball. Jake actually jumps up and hits the ball to Ian and Ian hits it back. Lois, the mom, said to me, “I am a single mom and Ian has no father figure. Jake has made his life complete.” And let me tell you, they have made Jake’s life complete!”

Julie, and Dora-Lynn,
First of all I want to thank you for the recommendation to adopt Mason. While searching petfinder.com, sporadically (well over a year), finally, the sparks flew. I saw Mason’s picture and fell in love. I looked at him for several days and finally sent an inquiry. It had taken years to finally try to fill that void that my Susie (German Shepherd) had left. To make a long story short, after you and Dora-Lynn made the home visit and recommendation, on Mother’s Day weekend, I traveled 3 hours to pick up Mason. He got in the car with my family, and it seems like he has been with us since the day he was born. The woman who was fostering him continually told me how good he was with children and her other pets, and that is the truth. He has brought such a warmth to our home. He is a wonderful addition to our family, and I’m so glad he’s with us.

Thanks again. Phyllis Green

He has two big soft cushions to choose from, gets to go for lots of walks, is getting loads of attention and petting and praise from Richard and me. He is so incredibly mellow! The only people who are thrilled about this are the cats, but they’ll adjust. He is smart and doesn’t do anything to startle them; eventually I think they will come around. I introduced him to the ferret yesterday, and they sniffed each other and were fine –Brownie just slept on his cushion while Marlon (the ferret) played around.

We took him to Petsmart, where he got a glorious medicated and moisturizing bath (they said his skin was very dry), got his nails trimmed and generally got some pampering. He looks and smells beautiful now, and is quite pleased with himself. I was going to give him a bath in our tub, but he didn’t want to get in and I didn’t want to push him. The person at Petsmart said he looks like a Chesapeake, because his nose is longer. Who knows; doesn’t really matter. Anyhow, they were so happy with him because he was calm and happy through all of this, didn’t mind anything and basically enjoyed himself!

He was really really stiff yesterday, and seemed to have a hard time walking. It looked like he had bad arthritis, especially in his back legs. Is this something you’ve noticed? I’m sure the ride in the car and the cold damp weather didn’t help. But he just limped along slowly most of the time like he was an old old dog. Today he is a little springier, so I’m glad for him. We’ve walked around our neighborhood all different directions; once the weather is better, I’ll take up to the conservation area to walk –lots of great smells there! But I’m being careful not to push him –I want him to build up his strength and stamina at his own pace.

So, I just wanted to let you he is great! We think we will re-name in Bruno –we think he looks like a bear, and it’s close enough to the name he’s used to. He is so gentle, it’s amazing.

Thanks to all of you for all the work and effort you’ve done to keep him together and to get him out of the shelter before it was too late. I’m delighted to know him, and we’re so happy he is with us. I’ll stay in touch and let you know how he does.

Today SUNNY DELIGHT is celebrating his one year forever birthday at home with his sisters Misty Maltese (14) and Ladybug (6 y/o Shih Tzu), and his “totally trained” (per Lisa and Morgan) HuMom, Sharon in Avon, Ohio!!!

This is Sunny today … happy, joyous, free and laughing with complete abandon at his HuMom as she attempts to get him to “pose!”

Sunny brought to our house a 3rd dimension of love and laughter when he joined his sisters one year ago.

It was one year ago today that my rescue pal Marylu Holcomb joined me on the madcap journey from the Cleveland (OH) area, across the wiiiiiiiiiiide state of Pennsylvania through blizzard conditions, a dash through New Jersey into the nightmare gridlock of the New York freeways through which we miraculously found our way to the Yonkers Animal Shelter (in the nick of time before they closed), where it had been prearranged that I would receive the blessing of adopting this precious little, 4 y/o, 6#, filthy, matted mess of a love bug named, Sunny! From the moment he was handed to me it appeared that he had been waiting for me all along … he looked up at my face as if to say, “Where’ve you been, Mom?” Then he snuggled into the crook of my arm with a huge sigh of relief … and it has been ever such.

WHO is the rescued??? I do believe I am!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of those who participated in Sunny’s rescue/adoption … Marylu Holcomb, Lorraine and Peter Takahashi of Greenwood Lake, NY, Dora-Lynn and Julie of Ginger’s Rescue & Friends of the Yonkers Animal Shelter … and to all of you who have loved him since … GOD BLESS!

Have a blessed St. Patrick’s Day!
